So it’s a beautiful day here in St Louis, 55 and sunny! Get home from work, change clothes realize that we have a few hours of sunlight left and I have the house to myself.

I spend the time cleaning and fixing a few things and decide to push my old 71 CB500 out, charge the battery ad give it a spring once over. The battery charger comes out I hook it up and it doesn’t look promising, I think the old non-sealed lead acid battery has probably died (this one lasted longer than usual at 4 years!).

So I just decide to leave it on trickle charge and go about my business. Now I’m inside answering some emails and hear a crash out in the garage. I figure a critter got into the garage and knocked something but as I go out to check I see the bike on its side...

Fuck...

I tip it back up and clean off the gas that was leaking out of the tank and see the broken left control.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The kickstand had sunk into the soft driveway more than I expected and off-balanced the bike and down it went.

Well off to ebay it is...

Betrayed by your own driveway! That sucks!

Soft enough for the stand to sink in, yet hard enough to break your left control. What are the odds?

Yep, to be fair though   50 year old cast aluminum isn’t that tough anymore.

Definitely! These are the shitty things about an unpaved driveway.
